Introduction to the Funding Module

The Funding Module helps organizations manage post-award funding, compliance, and reporting in one centralized place.

It is designed to support the full funding structure after recipients have been selected (post-award), making it easier to organize funding initiatives, track recipients, and manage how money is distributed over time.

The module gives organizations a clear way to manage funding from a high-level round, down to individual programs, recipients, and disbursements.

Where to Find the Funding Module

How the Funding Module is Structured

The Funding Module is organized in a hierarchy:

  • Funding Rounds are the top level.
  • Each Funding Round can contain multiple Funding Programs.
  • Each Funding Program can contain multiple Funding Recipients.
  • Funding Recipients can be startups, SMEs, awardees, or other funded entities.

This structure helps organizations manage funding in a clear and organized way, from the overall funding initiative down to each individual recipient.

Funding Rounds

Funding Rounds sit at the highest level of the module. They are used to group and organize funding initiatives under a broader budget, cycle, or call for funding.

A single organization can have multiple Funding Rounds.

Funding Programs

Funding Programs sit inside Funding Rounds.

A Funding Program usually represents an individual grant, award, scholarship, or other funding opportunity within a Funding Round. Each Funding Round can contain multiple Funding Programs.

Funding Recipients

Funding Recipients sit inside Funding Programs.

They represent the funded entities that have been awarded support through the program. Depending on the organization, Funding Recipients can include startups, SMEs, awardees, or other beneficiary types.

Disbursements and Milestones

Each Funding Recipient can contain one or more Disbursements.

Disbursements can be managed in different ways depending on the funding model:

  • as a single payment
  • as a multi-tranche payment
  • linked to milestones
  • or managed independently without milestones

This flexibility allows organizations to support different payment structures and compliance processes.

Common Cases

Organizations can use the Funding Module for:

  • grant management
  • scholarship management
  • award management
  • post-award funding follow-up
  • milestone-based payment management
  • compliance and reporting tracking

Tips & Best Practices

  • Set up your Funding Round structure clearly before creating Funding Programs and Funding Recipients.
  • Keep naming conventions consistent across rounds, programs, and recipients to make tracking and reporting easier.
  • Use milestones when payments depend on approvals, deliverables, or reporting requirements.
